Raspberry Pi progress

Added by sgtpepper 8 months ago

Hi guys,

In relation to https://dev.etlegacy.com/issues/885 I just wanted to share with you my current status on the Pi. I’ve managed to get ET:L built and installed using SDL 2.0.8, and can successfully play the game using the "Host Server" option. I’ve managed to do this using the experimental OpenGL driver using a Raspberry Pi 3b+. I’ve ran into a few snags along the way, but I’m really keen to help get a stable build of ET:L for the Pi for others to use.

Here is a YouTube video of some short gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaP_3NbzxbU

I’ve not been able to successfully connect to any live servers yet for a variety of reasons which I think boils down to the various mods running on them. If I can help out in any way please let me know. In the meantime I’ll continue to try connecting to live servers.

Thanks

Hey, great news!

Please do PRs on git - we would love to see more progress on an ETL RPI release

For a clean and stable PI connection to a common server the ARM binaries have to be 'installed’ on both sides.

Hi IR4T4

Thanks for replying! I’m currently trying to get Omni-bot enabled so I can do some more testing, I think I’m going to have to compile it from source though as the current binaries are for x86 or x64 and in the console I see "cannot open shared object file" - the filepath I’m using is correct too.

Client side install appears to be correct once the pak.* files are copied into etmain. Not done a server-side install yet but will keep you posted. It’s very promising news though.

I’ll hop on discord to speak to you all.

Thanks, Ian.
