Description

When cl_language isn’t set to 0 (english) the code parses for language specific menus in subfolders. Example:

ui/german/quit.menu

I just realised how horrible this feature is. It will duplicate every ui file as many times as there are supported languages. We have to replace this old localisation system with Gettext as soon as possible.

Please add reference files in english so we can get started translating.

Something like this would create a lot of editing work when something in original UI is changed...

I dunno if that’s possible but I think a solution similar to translation.cfg for the game is way better.

Reference files are already there in the ui/ directory. For example, original file etmain/ui/hostgame.menu is in English. Danish translation should be saved in etmain/ui/danish/hostgame.menu.

Yes, that’s how Gettext works. I’ve been looking at how to implement Gettext into ET:L and it shouldn’t be very difficult. When it is done we will take existing translations and convert them to PO format, so they won’t be lost.

I do fully agree nobody would implement it this way in 2013. The final solution is gettext. But translated UI files don’t harm. We do profit immediately from the files.
