Description

IRC client has been added in the client, and this feature does not make full unanimity.

I personally hardly think of any useful user case, and believe that the client itself should be made extensible (if possible?) so anyone can extend it for any features (IRC client, ordering pizza, making phone call to your girlfriend, ... ).

Built-in IRC is nice and really useful, however I don’t know how can (does) it work inside the game.

Its basically a full client available in console at any time.

Actually the IRC client is a "nice to have" feature, but imho not a "must have". Make it optional in compile options if possible.

Something else I could think of more of the IRC protocol is to include it in some future versions as a lobby like system within ET where you can do your pickups.
However I dont know if it is possible to do this with the current ui and menu code or if you have to implement something else like librocket to make proper and more eye-candy use of such a lobby system.

  • Status changed from New to Invalid

This feature will be optional by changing the value of FEATURE_IRC_CLIENT in CMake.

Game lobby is one possible use for the IRC client. It could be done with the current UI, but UI macros are not easily customizable and it is a pain to write any elements with dynamic content. I would love to have librocket instead of these rigid macros, but we can’t use it, because that would break compatibility with old mods.

Then not so useful IMO, making even more mess in a messy console.
