Installed etl.app from etlegacy.com
v2.72

Dragged over pak files from Wolfenstein ET 2.6b (and c and d)

Within 60 seconds of loading a Silent mod map, ET:L disappears and I am returned to the desktop.

I thought it was at first. It seems more random. Sometimes it is when I see an enemy, or even a team member. Other times, it is when bullets are flying at me.

Reopening. The attached log is about #814 - it actually shows that the player never connected to the game.
Likely, this is an old log. I believe the actual Mac OS X crash doesn’t produce any log.

Ok, so i just tested the latest master on a silent server (connected & downloaded mod and maps) and stayed there for 30 minutes and it seems to work just fine.

Yes, confirmed. ET:L 2.72 crashes, but latest master behaves as expected.

Are there recent crash logs, game logs, a specific build of another mod this happens with, and steps to reproduce?

We need this dialog or abort of game badly. When Sys_LoadGameDll fails ET:L shouldn’t pretend as if nothing had happened.

Or make it a fatal error. Existing mods shouldn’t be allowed to load Legacy mod files as "backup".

I think we have had 2 issues on MAC - 1 is still open. In both cases it seems vanilla/ETL libs are loaded/used instead of the wanted mod lib. This happens when unzipping or lib loading fails. See #279

We try to load bundled silent mod ...
1st issue should be solved with http://dev.etlegacy.com/projects/etlegacy/repository/revisions/670305b726ef53cdd86b5b1cde9c8c645c02508f fixing problems inside a zip.

This log of slobrem (see above) shows 2nd and probably still open issue : "- Trying zipped .bundle... failed. (Not a zip)".
The unzipping code has been extended to print more info about and because the bundled zip of silent doesn’t fail on all system my favourite is this UNZ_CRCERROR ...

It doesn’t seem the unpacking lib issue is directly related to that mac crash.
Instead, this forum thread gives more light on that issue. Seems related to SDL2 and newer Mac OS X SDK.

this bug in v2.74 is not reproducible...maybe. Actually many people have a osx capitan.

Not yet. The 2.75 beta should be available soon.

This said, the bug is probably not fixed if the silent team doesn’t care about it.

Well, it’s not only silEnT mod issue I think? You can still port the fix from Legacy at least to ETPub and Jaymod.

Both of which aren’t developed anymore. Even if fixed, these mods won’t see a fixed version on servers.

But I guess the real problem is that nobody has a full time Mac developer to invest time into that issue.

From the above log file:
"Sys_LoadDll: failed to load the mod library. Trying to revert to the default one."

This is causing the crash with other mods - simply because the real mod isn’t loaded. This behaviour of ETL has been changed and we no longer load the default mod when there is no mod lib available.

This was only one part of the issue. As far as I remember, we’ve found that there is another issue related to SDL2 which is platform dependent and make the game crash on Mac.

I don’t think this issue (see ticket decription) is related to SDL but I’ve got the same impression - we have had or still have several issues on OS X.

The above log also throws the message "- Trying zipped .bundle... failed. (Not a zip).". I’ve had a look at silent 8.2 and the ui_mac file f.e. IS a bundled zip. I think this is the standard of involved mods.

In the end we are using unzOpenInternal from unzip.c (Sys_TryLibraryLoad→FS_Unzip→FS_UnzipTo→unzOpen→unzOpenInternal) and it shouldn’t be a big deal to figure out why this file isn’t recognized as a zip file.

We have had several reasons for this bug. 2.75 wasn’t even able to load mod binaries and before 2.75 the etlegacy binaries were used when mod binaries couln’t be loaded.

With 2.76 a VM_Create on UI error shouldn’t occure anymore. If there are issues with mod binaries CGAME should fail.
